what we listen for

rue hollow exists to cut through the noise of an increasingly less human world to give space to what feels real.

send us songs that carry weight, stories captured in the quiet moments, and music that feels like a discovery rather than performance.

raw audio. we welcome unmastered, immediate recordings. room tone, background noise, and imperfection are not distractions. they are part of the moment.

voice memos. recorded on your phone. unfiltered. unpolished. sincere over perfect.

unfinished songs. not everything needs to be complete. some songs are just meant to exist as is. we tend to be our own harshest critics. what feels unfinished may already

be enough.

what belongs in rue hollow?

we seek the honest, the unpolished, and the deeply human. music that feels like a quiet confession , a memory preserved in sound, a moment you didn't mean to capture but you did. if it carries a sense of time, place, or emotional truth, it belongs in the hollow.

how often is new work added?

the hollow grows at its own quiet pace. we do not rush discovery.

expect new arrivals when the silence demands it.

do you select based on production quality?

never. a voice memo recorded in a kitchen is more hollow-worthy than

a studio master.

can I resubmit a piece that wasn't added to the hollow?

we suggest waiting for a few curation cycles. it might find its space in a different volume later as the hollow's landscape shifts.

what the hollow is not:

rue hollow is not a record label, distribution service, streaming platform, or promotional agency.

we do not pay or charge for submissions. we do not guarantee placement, provide marketing or release services, or distribute music to Spotify

or Apple Music.

curation

all songs are reviewed manually

if your work is selected it may be included in an Emergence collection grouped with other recordings. it will be presented exactly as submitted with no edits made. you will always be credited. rue hollow is a curated, audio editorial of music submissions. all rights and ownership remain with the original creators.

reviewing

audio format faq

what file formats do you accept for submissions?

supported audio formats are: MP3, WAV, FLAC, MP4, WMA, AIF, and AIFF. you also have the option to share a link if you do not wish to upload a file for the reviewing process.

is there file size limit?

if you are using our submission form, please keep files under 50 MB. for files larger than 50 mb, we recommend providing a link.

do you prefer streaming links over direct uploads?

we have no preference. a direct voice memo often carries a certain intimacy that we value, but streaming links (SoundCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive) are just as effective for our curators to review. if selected for an Emergence collection, a file will be needed.

can I submit mono recordings or phone-mic audio?

absolutely. rue hollow is a home for the honest. background noise, mono tracks, and ambient hiss are part of the story you are telling. do not worry about professional studio quality. the more imperfections, the better.
